Bill Haydt will be a speaker on a panel presentation at the Defense Research Institute’s first annual Construction Law Boot Camp, Construction Law 101, in Chicago, IL, on November 8, 2018.  The panel includes Bill Haydt, Philadelphia, PA, Rinaldo J. Cartaya, Orlando, FL, and Lisa Torron-Bautista, Boca Raton, FL. This 1-day in-depth workshop will focus on key aspects of the construction claims and litigation process.

Their 1-hr. presentation, entitled “The End-Game: How to Develop and Implement Your Resolution Strategy,” will focus on how moving a complex claim from its initial stages to resolution requires a solid strategy. A significant part of that strategy involves evaluating the technical aspects of the claim and identifying how the technical expertise of an expert witness can be used to prosecute and defend the claim. They will also discuss how counsel and expert witnesses can work together throughout the process to resolve claims, narrow the issues, and, if necessary, prepare for trial.

Scott Lowe will be presenting a 2-day NHI Course in Newington, CT, titled “Principles and Applications of Highway Construction Specifications,” on July 31st and August 1st, 2018.  The course includes content that highlights the role of specifications as contract documents and tools for assigning risk.  Course participants will engage in lessons and practice sessions to identify types of specifications, select the most appropriate type for a given project, and generate an original, effective highway construction specification.  Emphasis is placed on the use of basic grammar and writing style so that participants can produce correct, consistent, clear, complete, and concise specifications.

Mark Nagata will be presenting a paper, titled “Criticism of the ASCE Schedule Delay Analysis Offsetting Delay Concept,” on Monday, June 25th, from 2:15 p.m. to 3:15 p.m., at the AACE International Conference and Expo, 6/24-27/2018, in San Diego, CA.  Mark will be presenting a second paper, titled “Proposing a Better Definition of Critical Path,” on Tuesday, June 26th, from 10:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.

Mike Ryan will be presenting a paper, titled “Proper Application of  TIAs to Measure Delay on Government Projects,” on Sunday, June 24th, from 2:15 p.m. to 3:15 p.m., with Bryan Van Lenten.
